Pumpkin Carving Took a Turn: A Halloween Short With a Reveal
Pumpkin carving took a turn. š What starts with the familiar business of carving a pumpkin ends with Jessica wearing it. The caption asks a pretty reasonable question: would you wear this?
Our short opens with āDo you like scary movies?ā and moves through a kitchen pumpkin-carving montage before the pumpkin-head ending. It runs a little over twelve seconds. That small sequence gives the final image somewhere to land.
Give the reveal a setup
The carving is part of the story. Without it, the ending would just be an unusual image. Seeing the activity first gives the viewer a reason to follow along and makes the final moment feel connected to what came before.
For a short like this, I like a simple question: what does someone need to see before the ending makes sense? That can help when choosing which moments belong in a sequence. The answer may be a hand at work, an object changing or a reaction. Keep the details that help the viewer follow the action.
Let the last image do some work
The pumpkin-head moment is the payoff here. The caption leaves room for the viewer to react instead of explaining every part of the joke. āWould you wear this?ā points back to something people can actually see in the video.
That is a useful exercise for everyday footage: choose an ending, then look for the real moments that lead to it. A little progression can make an ordinary activity easier to watch. It does not need a complicated premise or a claim that something extraordinary happened.
Keep room for the personal moments
We share production work through SwoleNerd Productions, and we also share moments from our lives. This one belongs to the Halloween side of the camera roll. The full vertical video is linked below, including the carving and the reveal.
Would you put the pumpkin on, or leave it on the porch? Watch the short and decide.
