How to Turn a Work Process Into a Clear Training Video
Knowing how to do a task does not automatically make it easy to explain. Our training-video short starts with one lesson, shows each step and makes the important details visible. The viewer should leave knowing what to do, not simply knowing that the presenter is experienced.
Choose one learning outcome
Describe the action or decision the viewer should be able to make afterward. A lesson on one task is easier to plan than a video that attempts to teach an entire role at once. Identify what the learner already needs to know and avoid leaving essential assumptions unstated.
Outline the sequence before filming. If the process involves specialized equipment or safety-sensitive work, have the responsible subject expert check it. A well-produced video cannot correct inaccurate instructions.
Show the detail the learner needs
Use a view that makes the action visible. A wide shot can establish the setup, while a closer view can explain a control, material or hand movement. Give the viewer enough time to understand the step before moving to the next one.
Spoken explanations, labels and captions should support the same instruction. Too many competing details can make a simple process harder to follow. Use the real process and current information rather than a generic example presented as company procedure.
Make review part of production
Ask someone appropriate to the audience to follow the lesson. Where do they pause? What do they still need explained? Check the export, text and audio in the intended viewing format.
Finally, decide who owns future updates. Procedures and equipment can change, and an old video may remain easy to find. A clear title, version and review responsibility help keep the training useful. Before a shoot, bring the learning outcome, current process and subject expert together; those are the foundations of a lesson people can return to.
